Woman Killed After Being Trapped In Maryland House Blaze: Fire Marshal

A house fire is under investigation after a woman was trapped and killed in a blaze that broke out in a Maryland home, according to authorities.

The 59-year-old woman was killed on Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Office of the State Fire Marshal announced following an investigation into the fatal incident.

At approximately 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, crews from the LaPlata Volunteer Fire Department and other surrounding agencies responded to the 1000 block of Suffolk Drive, where there was a reported house fire with people trapped inside.

Upon arrival, firefighters said they located a woman inside the burning home. She was treated and transported to the Charles Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation determined that the fire originated in a room behind the attached garage, though it remains under investigation.

In total, the fire marshal estimated that it caused approximately $175,000 in damages.
